Apple announced its next operating system, iOS 16, at its WWDC 2022 keynote on Monday. And if you want, you can download it on your iPhone right away – but you should know that it’s currently a developer beta, only available for members of the Apple Developer Program. Amongst the other software announcements Apple made at WWDC, the iOS 16 was one of them. The developer beta of the new software is already available and the public beta is going to roll out in July. For those in no pressing hurry, the official software is going to be available for download in September or October this year.

IOS 16 brings in a host of new features like widgets, new lock screens, and editing on iMessage and if you are keen on trying it out right now, you need to have an Apple developer account. For that, you need to sign up on the Apple Developer site, if you haven’t already. Apple’s developer program costs $99 per year.

Now before you pay the $99 and head over to download and install iOS 16 developer beta, let us warn you. This is not the finished product, there will be glitches and issues, including possible battery drain. Some people who have already downloaded the developer beta have said that UPI and banking apps have been crashing in some regions following the update.

How to Download iOS 16 on your iPhone

The easiest way to download iOS 16 is via over-the-air update, the way you would update to any other new software release on your device. Here’s how:

  • On your iPhone or iPad, go to the Apple Developer Program download page, tap Install Profile for iOS 16 beta (iPhone) or iPadOS 16 beta (iPad) and hit Allow.
  • Next, open the Settings app, tap on Profile Downloaded and hit Install on the top right when it appears. Enter your passcode if prompted and then tap Install two more times. Your phone will need to restart.
  • Once your phone boots back up, connect it to power, make sure you’re on Wi-Fi and go to Settings > General > Software Update. If you don’t instantly see an update available, wait a few minutes and check again.
  • Finally, hit Download and Install > Install and enter your passcode to update your device.

After your phone finishes rebooting, you should have access to the latest iOS 16 developer beta.
